Precedent study

The first local market that I have looked into is Pasar Taman Megah SS24. It is a permanent market that serves the community in Taman Megah. The site was previously also a market but without a defined saptial organization, the stalls were scattered around in no order of its own. It reminds me of the Koudougou Central Market, which was built to fulfill the needs of the community. The original vendors then moved in to the market and the new market has been much cleaner and comfortable. This market is open on all sides and the zoning of the market were also well taken care of, as the meat market were made to face the inside whereas the dry market and F&B stalls face the outside. This restricts unpleasant smell and sight from getting exposed. The markets also have different setups as the lower stalls are used for wet market while stores are used for dry market businesses. The F&B stalls also surround the dry market.

The market has clear zoning of wet and dry market.

Spatial layout of the market according to a simple grid while it has a very high roof for ventilation.

The next local market that I have analysed is Pasar Besar TTDI, which is not too far away from the market in Taman Megah. However, the market in TTDI serves a thoroughly different community, The market in TTDI is much bigger and has 3 stories in addition to a basement car park. This market is very clean as compared to markets from other places, this is even more obvious in the wet market section. Similar to the market in Taman Megah, this market has a distinct zoning of different markets that are separated by floors. The wet market is located on the ground floor while the dry one is one level up. I find this a good method of keeping the market clean and hygiene while giving the clear direction to visitors. another plus point about this market is that at the entrance, there is a wide stairway that leads directly towards the first floor. From my experience to the market, I realized that many people do not want to pass by the wet market unless necessary due to the smell. I feel that this is a clever way of solving the issue while still allowing access into the wet market from the sides.
